Questions people commonly ask…

What are the different types of divorce services offered by Divorce-Online?

We offer a range of services, including Managed Divorce (where we handle everything for you), Consent Order services (to legally finalise financial agreements), and services for missing spouses. You can learn more about each service on our website here or by contacting us.

How much does a divorce cost?

The cost varies depending on the type of service you choose, whether you need a financial order, and if you qualify for a court fee exemption. Our services start from £199, and court fees are currently £593. We offer payment plans and can help you check eligibility for fee exemptions. Take a look at our services here.

How long does the divorce process take?

The average divorce takes 6-7 months to complete, including the mandatory 20-week reflection period and 6-week waiting period after the Conditional Order. Delays can occur due to court backlogs or non-responsive spouses.

What is a Consent Order, and why do I need one?

A Consent Order is a legal document that formalises your financial agreement with your ex-spouse, making it legally binding. It protects you from future financial claims and ensures a clean break. We offer Consent Order services to help you draft and submit this document. See which service suits your financial arrangements here.

How do I know if I qualify for a court fee exemption?

You may qualify if you have low income, receive certain benefits, or have minimal savings. You can use our Court Fee Exemption Calculator here or contact us to check your eligibility.

What happens if my ex-spouse doesn’t respond to the divorce papers?

We can still proceed with the divorce. We can arrange for a process server to deliver the papers or apply for deemed service or alternative service methods. Additional fees may apply.

Can I get a divorce if my ex-spouse lives abroad?

Yes, as long as you meet the residency requirements for England and Wales. We can guide you through the process, including serving the divorce papers internationally.

What are the arrangements for children during a divorce?

Child arrangements, such as custody, visitation, and maintenance, are typically handled separately from the divorce itself. You can include child maintenance in a Consent Order, but other arrangements need to be agreed upon between you and your ex-spouse or decided by the court if there is a dispute.

What happens to pensions in a divorce?

Pensions are considered part of the marital assets and can be divided during a divorce. We can help you with pension sharing orders or offsetting arrangements to ensure a fair settlement.

What if I don’t know my ex-spouse’s address?

We offer a Missing Spouse Divorce Service to help you locate your ex-spouse or proceed with the divorce without their address. This involves additional steps, such as tracing services or applying to the court for alternative service methods. Take a look at this service here.
