Hearings take place in a private court room. Some will be heard by magistrates with a legally qualified clerk and some hearings by just the clerk. There will usually be an initial directions appointment in which the issues before the court will be determined and directions given to take the matter to a final hearing. The Family Proceedings court lay down a time table for the directions to be dealt with and they have to be dealt with by the date set to avoid delay.
