Kim Barnett, a former England cricketer has been fined £380 after pleading guilty to harassing his ex-wife by putting a picture of her in his car beside an image of a witch.
He was also ordered to pay £250 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge after pleading guilty to harassing Janet Barnett during August and September last year.
Magistrates sitting in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, heard that the former Derbyshire and Gloucestershire batsman was suffering from mental health difficulties after the break-up of his marriage.
The in-car slogan “Which is Witch?” – were seen by Mrs Barnett, who also lives in Leek, on both September 13 and 14 last year.
Barnett, who played in four Test Matches for England in 1988 and 1989, also admitted driving his car past his ex-wife’s home on several occasions despite being issued with a harassment warning in April last year.
During his submissions, his solicitor stressed that the course of conduct admitted by Barnett did not involve any direct contact with his ex-wife.
