A CHARITY which helps children build relationships with estranged parents is hoping to be granted a Christmas wish by caring readers.

Welcare Community Projects, in the Accord Centre, Kilburn High Road, is desperate for new toys, games and furniture to help young people feel more at ease.

The charity, which has been in the High Road for 12 years, offers supervised and assessed contact for families experiencing breakdown or divorce through trauma, violence, drug, sexual, physical or emotional abuse or mental health problems.

Jackie Perrin, centre manager, said: “There are not that many support centres around, so we get people from all over the country coming here.

“What we really need at the moment are toys and games for young people as we recently had a clear out and had to get rid of broken or terribly outdated ones.

“A number of our clients might be 12 or 13-years-old and we just do not have anything for them here.

“We get support from the churches in the area which is fantastic but we just need a little bit more.

“This is a child friendly environment and we want to ensure it is kept that way.”

The Times is asking readers to help out and is leading the way by donating an old Playstation 2 and two board games.

Tom Sullivan, Times deputy editor, said: “Welcare Community Projects are a hidden gem of the High Road and all their hard work often goes unnoticed by most of us.

“If you have a computer console or TV which is in good working order but is not used anymore then stuff like that is perfect. We want to help these kids as much as we can.”

Anyone willing to donate toys or games to the centre should call 020 7604 4404, email theaccordcentre1@btconnect.com or go to The Accord Centre, 292/294 Kilburn High Road, London, NW6 2DB
